How it works
The Internet Archive has been saving copies of web pages since 1996. When you look up a site, we ask the archive which years it kept a copy of the home page, open each of those copies in a browser and take a picture of the first screen. One picture per year makes the timeline; on a year's page you can ask for every month the archive saved.
Old pages sometimes miss an image or a font the archive did not keep, so a screenshot shows what survived, not always exactly what visitors saw back then.
We also take a fresh screenshot of sites we show once a month, so their history keeps growing. Our browser identifies itself as DomainRebornBot.
Removing a site
If you own a site and do not want its history shown here, ask us to remove it. Sites that block the Internet Archive are not shown either, because the archive does not replay them.
